How the Rotary Table Process Works

In a typical sequential two-shot process, the first material forms the initial part or substrate. The rotary table or rotary platen then moves the first-shot part and its supporting mold section to the second injection position. The second material is molded onto or around the first shot according to the product design.

The molded part should remain correctly located during transfer. The relationship between the first-shot geometry, second-shot cavity, shut-off areas, and material interface therefore needs careful review. The rotation angle, machine interface, and molding sequence must be confirmed from the selected equipment rather than copied from another project.

Product and Material Review

A two-color product may combine two colors of a compatible resin or two materials intended to provide different surface or functional characteristics. The customer should supply the exact material grades because bonding behavior, shrinkage, molding temperature, and processing conditions can affect the part and mold design.

The first-shot part must provide suitable support and positioning for the second shot. Product geometry around the interface should be evaluated for sealing, flash control, air release, and material coverage. Focare Mould can review drawings, 3D data, and samples when available.

Mold Alignment and Rotary Transfer

Repeatable alignment is important because the first-shot part must enter the second molding position consistently. The mold structure, machine platen, locating features, and rotary movement should work together to control the relationship between both molding stations.

The engineering review should consider how the first shot is retained during rotation, how the second-shot cavity seals, and when final ejection occurs. These items depend on the actual product and machine, so a 2K rotary platen injection mold cannot be finalized from the product appearance alone.

Runner, Cooling, and Ejection Coordination

Each shot has its own filling requirements. Gate positions and runner layouts should be reviewed for the selected materials, product geometry, visible surfaces, and injection-unit arrangement. Cooling for both molding stages should also be considered so that the first shot remains suitable for transfer and the final part can be released as intended.

Final ejection should occur at the correct station and should not damage the material interface or visible product areas. No fixed runner system, gate quantity, cavity number, steel grade, or cycle time is assumed without customer data.
