2K Toothbrush Handle Mold Design: Material, Cavities and Rotary Core
2K Toothbrush Handle Mold Design: Material, Cavities and Rotary Core
A 2K toothbrush handle combines a rigid body with a second color or a softer grip in a two-shot molding process. Buyers comparing two-color toothbrush molds should define the material pair, cavity output, tooling layout and compatible machine before requesting a quote. Focare Mould has published several toothbrush handle projects with different cavity counts and materials; the figures below describe those specific examples rather than a universal specification.
Two published Focare mold configurations
One Focare 2K toothbrush handle mold project uses PETG+TPE with 12+12 cavities, S420 mold steel, a 24-tip YUDO valve-gate hot runner, a 558 × 711 × 572 mm mold and a suggested 250-ton two-shot rotary-shaft injection machine. The same product page describes a separate PP+TPR example with 8+8 cavities and 16 hot-runner gate points. These are different examples; their materials and gate layouts should not be combined into one specification.
A further 12+12 cavity toothbrush handle mold is listed with PP+TPE, S136 steel, a combination of 12 valve gates and 12 hot-runner gates, and a suggested 380-ton two-shot rotary-shaft machine. Because part design and mold dimensions differ between projects, machine tonnage cannot be selected from cavity count alone.
How the rotary core approach works
In the rotary core approach described on Focare's toothbrush product pages, the mold core rotates between the first and second injection positions. The first shot forms the rigid portion; the second shot adds the other material or color in the intended areas. Core alignment, material compatibility and gate placement must be checked against the actual handle geometry. The final process and machine configuration should be confirmed during engineering review.
Questions to settle before quoting
Which resin pair is specified for the finished handle, and what grip feel and appearance are required?
What is the expected annual quantity and target cycle time? These inputs help assess whether 8+8 or 12+12 cavities suit the project.
What two-shot machine is available, including clamping force, rotary-shaft configuration, shot capacity and tie-bar spacing?
Are there CAD drawings, part weight, preferred gate locations and inspection requirements?
What mold steel, hot runner and maintenance requirements should be included in the quotation?
