3 Sport Bottle Cap Mould Solutions – Case Study
3 Different Single Color Sport Bottle Cap Mould Solutions
When developing a new sport bottle cap, the external appearance may look similar, but different internal structures can result in very different mould investments and assembly requirements.
In this project, Focare Mould compared three different single color sport bottle cap designs. Each solution has a different number of injection moulds and additional components.
Style 1 – Simple 2-Mould Structure
Style 1 is the simplest solution in this comparison.
It requires two injection moulds:
1.Top Lid Mould
2.Cap Body Mould
A separate silicone seal is required for the sealing function.
This structure has fewer moulded components, which can simplify mould investment and production management.
Main characteristics:
-2 injection moulds
-Simple product structure
-Fewer plastic components
-Separate silicone seal required
-Easier assembly management

Style 2 – Multi-Part Functional Design
Style 2 uses a more complex mechanical structure and requires five injection moulds:
1.Upper Lid
2.Main Body
3.Carrying Handle
4.Button Lock
5.Button
Compared with Style 1, this design contains more independent components and therefore requires more moulds and assembly steps.
Main characteristics:
-5 injection moulds
-Carrying handle
-Separate locking mechanism
-Push-button components
-Higher assembly complexity
-Additional purchased components required

Style 3 – Integrated Push-Button & Lock Design
Style 3 uses three injection moulds:
1.Upper Lid
2.Main Body
3.Push Button + Lock
A separate silicone seal is also required.
Compared with Style 2, the push button and locking function are more integrated, reducing the number of separately moulded components.
Main characteristics:
-3 injection moulds
-Integrated push-button and lock structure
-Fewer moulds than Style 2
-Separate silicone seal required
-Balance between functionality and mould investment

How to Choose the Right Sport Bottle Cap Design?
There is no single structure that is suitable for every sport bottle project.
Before mould manufacturing, customers should consider:
1.Required bottle cap functions
2.Number of moulded components
3.Mould investment
4.Assembly process
5.Additional purchased parts
6.Sealing structure
7.Production volume
8.Automation requirements
A simpler product may reduce mould quantity and assembly steps, while a more complex structure can provide additional functions such as carrying handles, push buttons or locking mechanisms.

Focare Mould – From Product Structure to Mould Solution
Focare Mould can support customers from the early product-development stage, including product structure evaluation, DFM, mould quantity planning, mould design and injection mould manufacturing.
For sport bottle caps and other multi-component plastic products, evaluating the structure before mould fabrication can help customers better understand the required mould investment and production process.
