Focare Mould develops two-color cap bi-injection molds with review of shot sequence, material compatibility, cap fit, color boundaries, machine interfaces, cooling, and ejection.
Two-Color Cap Bi-Injection Mold
A two-color cap bi-injection mold is developed for closure products that combine two colors or two compatible materials within a coordinated molding process. The approach can support distinctive packaging appearance and integrate selected product areas without relying on a separate post-molding assembly step.
Focare Mould has worked with two-color cap applications including oil caps, large bottle caps, cosmetic cream caps, shampoo caps, and other packaging closures. Each project requires separate review because cap geometry, material grades, closure function, molding sequence, and injection machine interfaces can differ.

Two-Color Cap Product Review
The review starts with the cap product rather than the mold alone. The engineering team needs to understand which area is molded first, which area receives the second shot, how the materials meet, and which surfaces are visible or functional.
Closure fit, threads or retaining features, sealing-related geometry, color boundaries, and local shut-off areas should be checked against the actual design. Not every cap uses the same closure structure, so Focare Mould requires the product drawing and application information before proposing the mold concept.
Material Compatibility and Shot Sequence
The customer should provide the exact first-shot and second-shot material grades. Material compatibility, shrinkage behavior, molding temperature, and the intended interface affect how the second material bonds to or mechanically engages with the first-shot component.
The molding sequence should keep the first-shot cap area stable during transfer and second injection. The first shot must be positioned correctly, while the second-shot cavity must seal around the intended interface to control flash and the visible color boundary.

Machine and Mold Interface
A bi-injection cap mold must match the selected two-component injection molding machine. Depending on the machine architecture, product transfer may use a rotary table, rotary axis, rotary core, or another approved method. This page focuses on cap-mold engineering; the separate rotary-table process page addresses rotary transfer in greater detail.
Before mold design is finalized, the engineering team should confirm the injection-unit arrangement, platen and locating interfaces, mold installation space, nozzle positions, ejection interface, and the machine’s approved rotation or transfer sequence. Focare Mould does not assume a standard interface without machine information.
Color Boundary, Shut-Off, and Flash Control
Packaging caps often place the two-color boundary in a visible area. The first-shot geometry and second-shot shut-off therefore need accurate coordination. The mold design should consider how the second material reaches the intended area while limiting leakage into adjacent surfaces.
Gate positions, venting, local wall distribution, and surface finish should be reviewed with the cap appearance and function. The required boundary quality must be agreed from drawings, samples, or an approved appearance standard rather than described by an unsupported tolerance.

Cooling, Ejection, and Mold Trials
Cooling should be coordinated across both molding stages so that the first-shot component remains suitable for transfer and the final cap can be released as intended. Ejection should occur at the correct stage and should avoid damaging functional or visible cap features.
Mold trials are used to review filling, transfer, the material interface, color boundary, cap fit, surface condition, and release behavior. Adjustments depend on the actual product, materials, machine, and approved sample requirements. No fixed cavity number, steel grade, runner system, cycle time, or performance result is assumed on this page.
